The Day of the Dead, also known as Dia de Muertos, is a holiday celebrated primarily in Mexico and other areas around the world, which is focused on remembering and honoring those who have died. It’s a family-oriented holiday that focuses on praying and giving offerings to those who have died, to attract and honor the spirits of the dead.

Although the specific customs vary by region and culture, a variety of things have become iconic, such as food offerings on a table, decorated skulls, altars and flowers. The Day of the Dead is traditionally celebrated on November 1st and 2nd in Mexico, where it’s a national holiday.

Celebrations like the Day of the Dead are prime targets for photographers, who want to capture the activities and the unique aspects of the day.
